I confess to being an unapologetic Midwesterner, raised in Illinois and currently living near Des Moines, Iowa. I love to visit the other magnificent places in this country - and have lived on both coasts - but the Midwest is home. My two children spread their wings to Texas and California (although one recently returned to the Heartland), but in any case, I certainly don't live alone. Latte, my girlie-girl but often hellbent Siamese, keeps things lively around the house and recently was joined by Pippin, a mischievous Min Pin puppy, who keeps us both on our toes!
Following law school and private practice, I joined the Juvenile Court system, working on delinquency and child abuse cases. My most satisfying years were on the Child Abuse Trauma Team, a multi-agency investigative unit, applying crime scene and interviewing skills with medical forensics to solve high risk cases, including child deaths. Those investigations led to both civil and criminal court prosecutions if warranted.
Writing has always been a big part of my life, from the horse novel I wrote by hand at the age of nine to journalism in high school and college - not to mention the short stories, the cozy novel, or the hundreds of unfinished fiction pieces hidden in drawers and file cabinets. In January 2009 I left public service and began writing fiction full time, publishing sixteen fantasy novels between 2012 and 2019. In 2020 I changed direction and began writing historical mysteries. In 2023 my original publisher downsized, orphaning my fantasy books. In 2023 I revised and updated the Guardian Witch 7-book series and republished it on Amazon.
I remain an avid reader. Mysteries, thrillers, fantasy, romance - I read them all. While I have been fortunate to travel widely in the States and abroad, I continue to enjoy the fictional worlds created by other writers and am rarely found without a book or one of my six kindles!
When I began writing full time, I discovered and joined Sisters in Crime, Sinc Guppies - one of the most rewarding decisions of my writing career. I now belong to several writing groups, run two blogs, and interact regularly with other writers and readers via social media.
